A "Call for Offers" on the 9th Avenue property

DENVER – The University of Colorado Denver today announced a “call for offers” to purchase and develop 25.88 acres of the former CU Health Sciences Center.  This parcel also includes the adjacent 4.07-acre University of Colorado Hospital critical care tower. The University seeks qualified developers to redevelop this premier location at 9th and Colorado in Denver.

The University will work with the Romani Group and has established an evaluation committee which will recommend which firm should be selected as the buyer for the former campus.  The evaluation committee has five members including Tracy Huggins of the Denver Urban Renewal Authority, (DURA), Diane Barrett from the Denver Mayor’s Office, Lilly Marks, University of Colorado Vice President and Executive Vice Chancellor for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Steve Zweck-Bronner, legal counsel for the University of Colorado Denver, and Ray Baker, president of Gold Crown Management.  The committee’s goal is to seek a developer who is best able to ultimately close on the sale and whose proposal can best meet the needs of the University and the City of Denver.

Last June, The Lionstone Company closed on 6.74 acres on the southwest quadrant of the site. The University hopes to be able to announce the new buyer by mid-November.   

The property was originally offered for sale in 2006 after the University of Colorado relocated  the health sciences campus to the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center which is now the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo.  In 2003, the state Legislature passed a law requiring CU to sell the medical campus.

Interested parties have until Oct. 18, 2013, to submit proposals. Interested buyers should connect with the Romani group and should not contact members of the evaluation committee. Information is available online on the 9th Avenue Campus page
