University community offers aid to victims
DENVER and AURORA, Colo. – In the wake of the Aurora theater shootings many members of the CU Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus community felt the natural desire to help.
One way available to faculty, staff and students was to donate blood through the Bonfils Blood Center at three separate events held on the two campuses.
The first event, at the Anschutz Medical Campus on Aug. 13, brought in 19 total units of blood exceeding the goal of 18 units. The second event, on Aug. 16, resulted in 28 total units donated and the final event on the Auraria Campus almost doubled the goal of 38 units with a total of 61 units collected.
Altogether, 108 units were donated which will enhance and/or save the lives of 309 individuals.
The appeal was so well received that at the Auraria Campus event, the staff had to turn away more than 30 possible donors but made several appointments for the next event on campus.
Donors are asked to mark their calendars for six more dates scheduled for 2012: Sept. 25-27 in North Classroom from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Dec. 3-5 in North Classroom from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
For other dates and locations to donate please check http://www.bonfils.org/.
