AURORA, Colo. (Sept. 12, 2013) – The CU Anschutz Medical Campus Advancement Office welcomed more than 100 members of the campus community to its modern and spacious new offices during an open house Wednesday afternoon.
The newly renovated space consolidates about 40 members of the development team into offices on the first floor of Building 500. A subset of fundraisers remain on the sixth floor of Building 500, focusing their efforts on the CU Cancer Center.
Before the renovation, which was done in partnership between the CU Foundation and the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus development officers and support staff were scattered in several locations around campus.
“It’s a big transformation,” said Rick Lawrence, president and CEO of the CU Foundation. “They did such a wonderful job with this space.”
Prior to the move this summer, the space was a conglomeration of offices for a credit union, the Center for Human Nutrition, and the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
“Everyone is now under one roof, and it will make a dramatic difference for us,” Lawrence said. “It will strengthen the cohesiveness of the group, and allow campus leadership to easily locate the fundraising professionals they need for various projects.”
In addition to office space for development officers and support staff, the space includes a reception area, a large conference room, comfortable lounges and a kitchenette.
“We have a professional staff and they ought to have a professional facility in which to operate,” said Carl “Spike” Eklund, who co-chairs the Anschutz Medical Campus Creating Futures fundraising campaign with his wife, Nancy. “This space is in tune with the times.”
Marsha Dawe, who spent more than 20 years as a CU fundraiser, enjoyed touring the new offices on Wednesday. “It’s the perfect spot to be — it’s in the center of everything,” she said. “This is just very exciting.”
