For my capstone project, I’m doing a literature review of psilocybin’s use in palliative care.
I have been in palliative care (PC) since my graduation from the nursing school and it has been fourteen years into my career and I learned that the true definition of PC is love.
Dimple Dhabalia spent decades traveling the world helping others. In the direst situations, she listened intently to the stories of refugees and made decisions about whether they were approved for asylum in the United States. Her avocation is her passion; it also nearly killed her.
I was staring out the window on a cool autumn morning, when I noticed a tree bathing in the sun, its leaves a perfect mix of gold and yellow, sparkling, glowing. A fleeting moment of beauty.
In palliative care, a good conversation can be life-changing. As healthcare providers, we generally tend to focus on the clinical aspects of care.
On November 7th, 2023 I received a call from my dad. I had not heard from my dad in 15 years.
My interest in palliative care started with my grandma’s use of hospice services seventeen years ago. She suffered with multiple sclerosis for over forty years.
One of the first take aways from this journey, for me, in a mid-career directional change from emergency medicine to palliative care was a move away from the golden rule and towards the platinum rule. Treat patients the way they want to be treated, not the way we want to be treated.
When conducting great research, it’s imperative to also work on great communication. Doctoral candidates know the ins and outs of their subject, but how would they describe what it is they’re doing to a broader audience? Eleven CU Anschutz students took on the challenge at this year’s Graduate School Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT), where they were asked to present their thesis in 3 minutes or less using only one slide.
Postdoctoral scholars are significant and integral members of the CU Anschutz research community. This fall, in recognition of their efforts, the Graduate School announced the inaugural Dean's Postdoctoral Research and Service Awards. Dean Jennifer Richer called on the campus to nominate exemplary candidates that embodied the spirit of both awards.
Postdoctoral Research Day 2023 (PDRD'23) was held in-person on July 13, 2023. Over the last year, postdocs have been in the spotlight thanks in part to the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) Working Group on Re-Envisioning the Postdoctoral Experience.
