Governance group seeks members
DENVER – A range of topics including membership, benefits, recognition and professional development are on tap for the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus Staff Council in the New Year.
Members met via video conference today to begin discussing recruiting new members to represent classified employee colleagues in our schools, colleges and administrative units. Elections will take place early this spring and all classified staff are eligible to participate by seeking election and voting for new members. Look for more details to come. A current roster of members is available online. Staff Council is the governance group that represents university employees who are in the State Classified system.
Staff Council Chair Deborah Makray emphasized “how important it is for us to help our classified employees to understand the role of Staff Council here at the university.”
One important effort of Staff Council is staff appreciation. Employees are invited to nominate classified staff to be recognized. Nominations can come from co-workers in the immediate work group, colleagues in other departments and supervisors. The nomination form and instructions are available online.
During today’s meeting, Randi Wood, director, Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (C-SEAP) provided an overview of services her office provides for any state employee. “Our function is to provide confidential counseling to anyone who receives a paycheck from the State of Colorado. Our goal is to support employees so they feel good about their work.”
Wood noted that more than 100 University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus employees sought counseling last year. Services provided by the office include one-on-one counseling about work, family or other personal matters; coaching for managers and supervisors which might include working through ‘emotional intelligence’ issues to help individuals understand the impacts they have on others; and limited emergency financial support.
Any employee at the university can take advantage of these services by scheduling an appointment. Call 303-866-4314.
