AURORA, Colo. – When Joan Hart walks out of the Beau Jo’s restaurant on Saturday, April 14, she’ll be a hero for the cancer patients she helps every day, having raised more than $6,000 for the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) Patient Assistance Fund. Joan will also be completely bald.
As a social worker at UCH, Joan helps cancer patients every day with those little things that can be so bothersome. Using funds from the Patient Assistance Fund, she helps patients pay for transportation, lodging, food, and she sometimes even helps pay their utility bills. Seeing how important the funds are gave Joan the idea to raise money. She promised to shave her head if she gathered $5,000 in donations, and she’s now surpassed that goal.
On Saturday at noon, she’ll be shaving her head in the middle of a Beau Jo’s restaurant while friends and donors watch. Beau Jo’s will also be donating 20% of the pre-tax sale of food that day to the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation for any patrons who bring in a flier about this donation.
Joan says her plan is about more than just raising money. She considers this a tribute to all the patients who are bravely battling cancer and losing their own hair. Joan has been growing out her hair for about three years and will donate it to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program to be made into wigs for women fighting cancer.
Any media interested in covering the event should plan to be at the restaurant by 11:45. Joan has her appointment with the clippers at noon.
