Zweck-Bronner 2012 honoree for ‘doing the right thing’

DENVER – When it comes to legal matters at the University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus, colleagues say Steve Zweck-Bronner is an attorney who clients turn to “early and often.” Zweck-Bronner’s “steady leadership” as managing senior associate counsel has earned him broad respect as reflected in the nominations submitted for this year’s University-wide Excellence in Leadership Award.
The honor was bestowed during today’s annual luncheon at Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel hosted by the Excellence in Leadership Program (ELP). Established in 2000, the program lists more than 300 alumni comprised of faculty and staff from across the CU System and campuses.
Nominations for today’s award on behalf of Zweck-Bronner (ELP alumnus 2006-07) came from Don Elliman, chancellor; Lilly Marks, vice president of Health Affairs and executive vice chancellor Anschutz Medical Campus; and Patrick O’Rourke, vice president, University counsel and secretary of the Board of Regents.
Elliman’s nomination noted Zweck-Bronner’s many contributions on matters including the partnership that is the Auraria Campus, the challenges of our consolidated university, the former campus at 9th Avenue, overall revenue and funding and more.
“He stands as a testament to leadership,” noted Marks as she recounted Zweck-Bronner’s “calm and decisive leadership that has helped us to do the right thing on a variety of issues.”
Mark’s nomination describes Zweck-Bronner who “as an attorney, one of his greatest strengths is his ability to give sound legal advice in a manner that facilitates rather than impedes progress on important issues.”
Today’s program, sponsored by TIAA-CREF, also featured guest speaker Cynthia Stevenson, PhD, superintendent, Jefferson County Public Schools and three-time CU alum. The theme of Stevenson’s remarks was ‘great by choice.’ She showed clips from the movie “Moneyball” to illustrate her key message points on ‘discipline, empirical creativity and productive paranoia.’
The ELP program provides opportunities for leadership and professional development through face-to-face workshops; online resources; large and small group activities; project teams; and networking opportunities. Individuals are selected for participation based on nominations from senior university management. The annual leadership awardee is selected from among overall program participants of previous years.
