Kenneth (Ken) B. Durgans, Ed.D., has been appointed Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.
With academic and professional expertise focused on cross-cultural communication and diversity issues, Durgans is committed to student-centered learning and has a proven record for exceeding diversity goals.
“Inclusive excellence is a process that will allow the CU School of Dental Medicine to increasingly strengthen its leadership role in the 21st century,” Durgans said. “Through the complete integration of diversity into our school’s core activities, the dynamic potential of the entire community will be positively unleashed. Inclusive excellence fosters an inviting learning environment for faculty, staff and students to use the varied human characteristics, backgrounds, interests and points of views to enrich our community and nation. In essence, new ideas and concepts that flow from diversity are vital to the CU School of Dental Medicine being considered as a premier top-tier, world-class institution.”
An Ohio native, Durgans earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Baldwin Wallace College, a master’s degree in college student personnel from Kent State University, a Master of Science (MS) in school counseling from the University of Dayton and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University. Durgans also completed the acclaimed Harvard University Management Development Program.
Prior to joining the CU School of Dental Medicine, Durgans held a variety of professional appointments from notable institutions including the University of Notre Dame, Wittenberg University, Olivet College, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Xavier University (Cincinnati), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
