As Car Thefts Rise, CU Anschutz Police Department and Campus Partners Provide Safety Tips, Debut New Program

Colorado leads the nation in auto theft, and, unfortunately, Denver and Aurora are two of the prime targets for thieves. On campus thus far in 2022, there have been 106 recorded reports of stolen vehicles and 39 attempted auto thefts, more than double from last year. The rise was especially troubling during November, when criminals stole or attempted to steal 23 vehicles.

Starting this week, the CU Anschutz Medical Campus and CU Denver campus will each have its own Emergency Management divisions. Historically, the CU Denver | Anschutz Police Department has provided emergency management services to both campuses as a dual-campus department. “Uncle Doc,” as Jack Arthur Comstock became known, was born in Fort Collins on Dec. 19, 1914, the youngest child of George and “Miss Arthur” Comstock. During his early years, Jack’s family, which included a brother and a sister, shuttled between dusty outposts in Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma. Members of the family often separated for the sake of keeping or finding employment.

Update on the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act

On Jan. 1, 2021, the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act went into effect. The law is intended to increase pay equity and transparency. The law is a forward-looking step by the State of Colorado that requires all employers to post vacant job openings with salary ranges, and to regularly examine pay levels and practices for inequities. The CU Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus central HR office is partnering with the schools and colleges, and the CU system office, to work through all of the details to ensure we are compliant with the new legislation. Extraordinary progress has been made in this regard, and our school and college HR partners are to be applauded for the work that has been completed to-date.

Half a year. That’s how long it’s been since the Lyster family of Aurora experienced the unfathomable – the loss of their son and brother. Cody Lyster was just 21 when the coronavirus robbed him of a promising future, making Cody the youngest person in Colorado – and still one of the youngest – to succumb to the virus.

  • What you need to know: When he’s not slinging on a guitar strap or a stethoscope, Matt Golub grabs his tennis racquet. The CU medical student has many passions, but if he had to choose just one, it would be shredding his guitar under the lights.

For Matt Golub, the video game Guitar Hero was a way of life in middle school. Far from a frivolous obsession, the endless hours he spent shredding virtual guitar set the course for his artistic passion. A formal process is in place to determine which programs or areas deemed mission-critical require campus access to operate. The majority of campus activity continues to be done remotely.

First Responders Honor Local Healthcare Workers Fighting COVID-19

As a show of support to the front-line healthcare heroes, the University of Colorado Police planned a procession that was held last night on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The event was led by federal and local police, fire departments, and other law enforcement officials. The motorcade saluted hospital staff with a display of lights and sirens while driving by UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, next to the campus. The procession was visible from the windows of all three hospitals, and the Children’s One helicopter crew flew multiple laps around the campus to showcase appreciation for our healthcare workers.
