U.S. News announced the 2019 Best Online Programs in the country and the University of Colorado College of Nursing online master’s in nursing ranked as one of the top in the nation at No. 4. Only one other public university placed higher than CU. For the past three years, CU has ranked in the top 10 of online nursing programs (No. 4 in 2018 and No. 9 in 2017). Factors contributing to the rank included graduation rates, academic and career support services offered to students and admissions selectivity.

For the 2019 edition of the Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs rankings, U.S. News ranked schools using five categories – engagement, (30 percent), faculty credentials and training (20 percent), expert opinion (20 percent), student excellence (15 percent), and services and technologies (15 percent).  These weights are unchanged from the 2018 edition.

“CU College of Nursing is proud to be among the best online graduate nursing programs in the country,” said Dean Elias Provencio-Vasquez, RN, PhD. “Our ranking is a testament to our great faculty, staff and students. Our college has employed skilled distance educators for nearly two decades, which has been reflected in our rankings throughout the years.”

Distance educator Diane Skiba, PhD, professor and specialty director of health care informatics at CU College of Nursing, said the distinction reflects the institution’s rich history of providing online programs to nursing students, which it has offered since 1998.

“Our dedicated faculty has designed online programs that are learner-centric, and continuously modify their online courses to leverage new technologies and the latest research in the field of online learning,” Skiba said.

Among Colorado academic institutions, CU Anschutz and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs alone earned ranked scores in this category.
