AURORA, Colo. – It is almost impossible to run a college campus without the aid
of technology in today’s age, and most people in the university community do not
realize how many opportunities there are available.

So, at today’s Technology Awareness Day a wide range of tech providers were represented,
from within the CU system as well as outside vendors. The event provided a venue for raising questions and getting details about services and new technology that is

“We wanted to introduce the campus community to the tech services that are
available,” said Tasha Carlson, executive assistant to the Associate Vice Chancellor for IT Services,
“There are a lot of services here on campus that people are completely unaware

One key services available is from the Health Sciences Library. The library has
multiple iPads, laptops and tablets available for students/faculty to check

Michael Campbell, Library IT Services, said, “Anschutz students can check out
an iPad for two days, while Denver and Boulder students can check one out for a
four-hour block. It’s a really great option for students who are hauling
around 200 pounds of books already.”

Librarian Benjamin Harnke said that the most underutilized service the library
offers is the ability to obtain the full text of articles. “There are many ways we
can teach people about getting full texts,” he said, “We have classes, emails,
online chats and one-on-one consultations.”

“One of the biggest things we want from this awareness day is getting feedback,”
said Campbell. “We want to know what the community thinks are the best apps to
get, the best operating system and also feedback about the overall program.”

Among vendors at the event, including Sprint and Cisco, there also were door prizes, including an Apple TV and an HP printer.

In the afternoon there were several breakout discussion sessions on a variety of topics,
including ‘How to create a strong password’ and ‘Email management.’
